Day 181

Another gorgeous summer's day! and we made the most of it again! Today I got the paddling pool out for the boys, they thought it was brilliant. And I think I need to mark today down in the calendar, I had hardly a fight to break up, they just played nicely in the water, mud, on the trampoline, with the footballs (the new ones from Pop - thanks Dad!).
It was a great day!

Day 180

Woohoo! Summer is here, and here it was JUST right, not too hot and not too sticky. Just beautiful. We spent the afternoon in the garden. The boys made mud pies, bounced on the trampoline, played with their water pistols, watered the garden. And me, I got the deckchair out and a book and relaxed. It felt great! I did have the washing machine going at the same time, so I was sort of doing something!

And look what is nearly ripe - finally - in our garden! Just have to keep the chickens locked up, so that we get to at least try our strawberries (the white one got out at the weekend and took a bite out of a few unripe ones! Cheeky Chicken!)

Day 179

The boys were as usual up at the crack of dawn again today, but this time it was Richard who got - or tried to get- Robert up. He woke me up screaming at 6.10am because Robert wouldn't get out of bed to play with him! I just picked him up and put him back in bed, and told them both to stay there until their alarm clock rang - didn't work, but it was worth a try!

We drove down to my parents today, when we phoned them the sun was shining there and here it was another overcast day. So we went there! We had a great time. In the afternoon we went into town to the park there, where there was a Oldtimer Show (cars) being held. It was just finishing so we had the added plus that the cars weren't just stood around, but were starting up and moving.
this is the one that we all thought was best, it was just like something from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"

After that, we went for an ice-cream in town. Yummy. Richard had "Pinocchio" and Robert had a snow man!

Day 178

Someone stole the sun this morning! And well into the afternoon too, so this afternoon we took the boys to Takka Tukka Land, an indoor adventure playground. On the way there the sun came out, and it was probably out all the while we were there, but the boys weren't bothered we were indoors, they had the time of their life.
There is this blow up thing that looks like a lion and every so often the mouth closes, they loved climbing in the mouth when it was open, and Robert would jump out, when it was closed, then start again. Richard slid down the back way, when the mouth closed, just that little bit too high for him to want to watch (luckily for my nerves!)
They were ever so good there, we told them they could go wherever they wanted in there as long as they stayed together, and wow, they did!

Day 177

Well, I remembered late yesterday afternoon, that I had to change my schedule for today, because I had an appointment with the "skin doctor" (I'm sure he has some fancy name, but I can't remember it!) I had a mole on my face removed today it was a "blue mole" and looked a bit like an oversized blackhead - well it is gone now, and instead I have a very fetching white plaster in the middle of my cheek! It took all of 3 minutes to get rid of it. But for those 3 minutes I had a 45 minute wait! Oh well, its gone now, and next week I get to wash that side of my face again!

The weather this morning was beautiful, nice and sunny and not too sticky and hot. So I planned for the boys to have the paddling pool out this morning. I got my book, camera and the boys and out we went to the garden. We had our ice cream first and whilst eating that. I watched a VERY black cloud coming towards us, from a strange direction. The weather here always comes from a certain direction, but today it was from the opposite side, and when that happens we are in for trouble. And trouble it was. It absolutely FELL down. But the boys know how to make the best of a situation! Here they are with a LOT of their things, collecting rain water!
They had a great time, we only went in, when an argument over one of the buckets got water ALL down both of them and they were soaking. So I sent them straight to the bath for more water fun!

Day 176

did I mention the ants at all this week?! Today when I got in from work, the whole lounge floor was covered in ants, YUCK!!! there were little ones and big ones with wings. It was horrible. The poison is taking tooooooo long to work its magic, and as I cannot pour boiling water in their nest in the lounge, I got the hoover out and vacuumed them all up! BUT the hoover is now out in the back by the wood, cause I am not sure that the little beasts are dead, and if they are going to come crawling back out of the hoover, then NOT in my house!!! I do have a picture of them from yesterday, but I have seen enough of them and am still itching all over, so I am not going to post it on here.


I went out and took a picture in the green house instead of the new and old tomato plants!

A huge difference in size, but with a bit of luck, the little ones will end up looking like the one from the shop too, ....one day!

Oh and before I forget, Mum is home and fine again, they don't know what caused the pain or such, so she has to go for more tests soon, but right now everything is OK. Thanks for thinking of her and your kind words!

Day 175

Robert went back to Kindergarden today, no temperature and according to him only a little headache. When I picked them up though no more sign of a headache - uff, guilty feelings gone!
Once home the ant's nest in the lounge,that I thought I had cured by putting down sugar, had grown and they had brought along their winged-friends - iiihhhhhh!!!!
The annoying thing is, I had brought ant-poison to put down yesterday, but when I got it out to put down, it was out of date by a YEAR! So this afternoon it was back to the shop to exchange it. So annoying! The boys weren't too bothered by it though, cause I bought them an ice-cream to eat, whilst we were there. And this is them comparing sticks to see if they had had the same size ice-cream! hihi!After the extra round of shopping it was time for football training and today they actually spent more time playing than climbing the fence! We're getting there. And I think the trainer enjoyed it more today too!

Had a bit of a shock when we got in, Dad phoned to say that Mum was spending the night in hospital, I have since spoken to Mum and she is right as rain now, but this afternoon she had BAD tummy ache, which spread to chest, back and arms (I think) that they had to go to ER. To be on the safe side they are monitoring her over night but she should be home in the morning. And the pain has now gone without any medicine.

Day 174

So doctor's this morning, Roberts temperature was still up a little bit, and he was still complaining of a headache. So off we went! But she couldn't find anything, his breathing was fine, his ears were OK, and his throat was too. So not really sure what it could have been or is. However she did decide, that we had been to see her too often in the last months and starting in the morning we are going to try and boost his immune system homeopathically. Fingers xed, I won't be back there so soon.

We did the shopping together and then it was time to get Richard from Kindergarden. This afternoon we planted the tomato plants we have grown from seeds, and I forgot to take a picture and it is too dark now. In fact, I haven't taken a picture today, BUT I did go and visit the family in the barn, and if I wasn't so short I would have taken a picture! So I am going to use the one Florian took for me at the weekend as today's photo!Meet our baby swallows! The swallows nest in our barn every year, and this year we were or I was so upset, when Sunny brought a swallow in as a present, but somehow others found the nest and used it! Can't wait till they start learning to fly, its so cute!

Day 173

Anyone see the quote on Bethany's blog today? "I'm pretty sure my laundry breeds on its own!" so so true, mine certainly bread over the weekend and that is what I was busy with this morning and some of the afternoon!
I decided that as the weather was so cold and horrible today, that in the afternoon I would take the boys shopping to the store that has "little trolleys" for kids. Never did get there, Robert did his infamous "crashing" when I picked them up from Kindergarden. His temperature soared and he just lay on the couch. Didn't eat and had a nap after Richard and I had eaten.
I have no idea what he will be like in the morning, but if his temperature is up, its straight to the doctor again - well, we haven't seen her for two weeks, I suppose.....

this is a picture I took this afternoon. Did you know that the council have the lights cleaned? I didn't, well at Kindergarden when I picked the boys up, we had to wait for them to clean the light there before I could move the car. the boys were fascinated by the lorry with the crane. And the driver and the crane man both waved to them. Well this afternoon, the lorry was cleaning "our" light outside, and here are the boys watching them. Not the best of photos, but you can see, what was fascinating them!

Oh, and the guys saw he was being watched and waved again! (Not sure he was thrilled about having is picture taken...!)

Day 172

Didn't get much sleep last night, finally got to sleep some time just after 2am (rude awakening just as I was dropping off to sleep by one of the boys Thomas the Tank engine toys, it was like an alarm clock going off playing the Thomas tune, no idea what set it off!) and the boys were awake around 6.20am again! So I have been running on empty for most of the day. I obviously am 20 years older than when I last saw most of the guys from school last - or was it just then when I played "dirty-stop-out" that Mum and Dad let me have a lay in!?!

Needless to say I didn't do too much today, I think the most I did was help Florian pack the old guest bed (a futon) into the car, he is having it for his room near work.
We barbecued at lunch time but ate in the barn as it started to rain. It was fun. In the afternoon it did end up falling down, we were sat out after the lunchtime shower in the sun with a good book, but the rain put a stop to that. We came in and put "Cars" on for the boys - don't they look cute watching it, Robert has his arm around Richard - they do love oneanother!


And I had a nap! I needed it! At 5pm Florian had to leave, as he is going by car with a bed, he needed to get there today, get it built up, and miss Monday morning traffic.

and now, I have been blogging in advert breaks, as I am finishing up my nostalgic weekend by watching Grease 2 - I really feel now that I am back at school. I still know all the words to all the songs, and I still think Maxwell Caulfield is cute in it! Somethings never change!

Day 171

It was another one of those days that is actually three rolled into one! The morning I was alone with the boys, whilst Florian drove to IKEA to buy us matresses for our new bed (which he also picked up), I was very sceptical as to whether he would get it all in the car, but it all went in and he was back just before lunch.
After lunch, we started taking down the guest bed first, then moving our old bed, which meant taking that to pieces too, to the guest room and then finally we were able to start building our new bed. And this is what it looked like, when I left for my reunion.


Notice the little helper, they were with us all the way! Not the easiest way to build a bed, but they were having fun.

So I left Florian with 2 kids and a half built bed to go to my 20 year reunion. I knew they could manage without me! ;o)

I had a GREAT evening, it started off a bit wierd, but I suppose I should learn to read invitations properly and not just assume I know everything. Well, I ended up at the wrong place! Ooops! And I then had to phone Florian to check my emails and read the address to me again. I was in the right road, but at the wrong end. I found it in the end only 45 minutes late! Gave everyone a good laugh though!
It was fun to see everyone again after so long, there were a lot there that hadn't really changed, as no one had problems naming me, I would like to think that I am one of them, and then some of them I didn't recognise at all, and others that I still don't think were in my year at school, cause I have no recollection of either name or face, oops! It was great to catch up, and we plan to do it all again in 5 years time for our 25 year (silver) reunion! Perhaps then we will all act our age. At times it was as if we had stepped back in time, it was the same groups as back then, stood around "gossiping"! great fun! So much so, that I was among the first to leave at midnight! I had decided not to stay at Mum and Dad's but to go home and sleep in our new bed!
I got just after 1am, and wow, the new bed and mattress was so comfy! Florian and the boys did a great job of finishing making it!

Day 170

Well, I have to tell you that I really laughed about Dinphy's comment yesterday! Yep, I would rather take the kids or myself to the dentist than buy shoes, and guess what, that is exactly what I did today! I remembered that I have a huge box of shoes from my friend in the utility room, so this morning I went rummaging around in it and found a "new" pair of shoes for both boys, and even another pair of sandals for Richard. So for now they are all set with shoes, and I will get their feet measured properly when we are in the UK and buy them some new ones there (unless I can think of another way to get out of it!!)
So this morning we only went to the dentist, and look at my brave boy

Its not his first time to the dentist, but it is the first time he hasn't sat on mine or Florian's lap, and he did really well. AND the dentist couldn't find anything wrong with his teeth. It still can feel cold (tried and tested) and there is no caries, so really we don't know what is wrong, but I am sure now whatever it was, it has probably miracously gone now!

This afternoon we went in the garden (Richard was overruled!) and I had two little helpers whilst I mowed the lawn. Luckily for me they got bored before I had finished the first half and I got the second half done in half the time! (I was racing against the big black cloud, but I needn't have worried, it never did rain!

I'll might not be posting tomorrow, I have my 20 year school reunion (Abitreffen), should be fun and interesting, I'll let you know soon!

Day 169

Not too much to report today, I was at work all day - busy! And when we got home guess what the boys wanted to play??

Here they were discussing whether the rabbits on the box were playing the game properly! Its amazing just how long they discussed the box!

I also spoke to Opel on the phone today about our new car, they managed to "forget" to include the cruise control that we ordered and it has taken me until today to get hold of someone who knows what happens now. Well I will be going back to Opel for them to fit it sometime in the next two weeks! Annoying but at least we are getting it, on long journeys it can be a godsend!

Tomorrow there is no kindergarden for the boys, the kids that start school next term are having their sleep over there and breakfast with their Mums and Dads there tomorrow, so I get the kids! But the morning is already planned, shoe shopping (yuck) and then the dentist. Robert banged his teeth a couple of weeks ago and is still complaining they hurt, so we'll see what the dentist has to say!

Day 168

Work this morning, nothing much to report from there. And this afternoon Robert went to his little friends house to play before football training. Poor Richard was a bit upset by this fact yesterday, but today when we took Robert there I bribed Richard with the promise of an ice-cream when we got home again! It worked!!
The sun was actually out and warm today BUT as Richard was on his own this afternoon he got to choose what we did, and... yep my little indoor boy, wanted to play indoors, the same as yesterday and the day before. Such a shame, but I gave in to him, but only cause I knew he was going to football later!
and this is the little monster just before we left for training all dressed up with his new shin pads on! now all we need is some socks for over the top of them! (he didn't want his picture taken, which is why he is not looking at me!)

Day 167

Ok, so who stole the sun?! It spent the day hiding again behind the clouds, and this afternoon it rained most of the time again! Tomorrow the forecast is a lot better, I hope so cause the boys need to run off some of their energy.
Today I took a picture of all of the games we played this afternoonLooks like we were quite busy! (oh and I read 2 of the stories in the book on top!)

Oh and I also took a picture of the present Sunny brought me this morning. The neighbours will be pleased to know that there will be less mud humps in the garden now!CU tomorrow

Day 166

Well, yesterday the boys were running around in the garden wearing next to nothing, and today, well, they could have gone swimming again, only this time not in the paddling pool but in the puddles! Yep, rain, rain and more rain today! Oh well, at least the weather was fine for the weekend.
So it was wet weather play this afternoon, stickers, drawing, reading and LottiKarotti, a fun game, must get a picture of it tomorrow!
Should have done it today, but I have only just remembered my picture again, and instead took a picture of one of my favourite things Florian brought back from India once. This little marble elephant, it has another elephant inside, but it doesn't show up on the photos.

Day 165

Sunshine - lots of it! it was a beautiful day today and we spent all day in the garden, except for breakfast. It was so relaxing and fun. We even got to put out Robert's new paddling pool for the boys. Robert never actually went in the water, he just played from the edge, but Richard was right in there playing and chatting, so cute!

After lunch robert decided that for fun he wanted to go to the bottle bank with Daddy! Daddy was thrilled ;o) but we all went and the boys thought it was great to throw the bottles in the hole! - Never too young to learn to recycle!
We barbecued again this evening, and the boys certainly tucked in, they both had nearly a whole steak, plus pasta salad and garlic bread! I think they must both be about to shoot up again!

Day 164

A beautiful day today and we spent most of it in the garden and actually finished clearing the front bed of weeds, well I helped in the morning and Florian finished in the afternoon. Today I remembered the before picture


And Florian went and took this one just before it got dark - the after picture! Not bad!


The green left standing is a clump of "lemon balm" (Zitronenmelisse) - had to look that one up. Smells delicious and is nice in Rhubarb jam!

The boys were all over the place whilst we were weeding, sometimes trying to help
And then I have two photos I just wanted to share, on one of the plants we didn't dig up, I spotted this little grasshopper - cute isn't it!

Day 163

Today was a so-called "bridge day" in Germany, which means lots of people have the day off between the bank holiday and the weekend, well here I think everyone went grocery shopping where we did. Total chaos on the carpark and in the shop! But we survived without anyone bumping us or the car! However a bird did not like the colour of our car. The whole bonnet was covered in bird poop when we came out of the shop! Yuck! In case you didn't know NEVER leave bird poop on the car for long as it damages the paintwork, and if you lease a car like we do, it costs LOTS if you didn't notice when you hand the car back in! So, Florian cleaned the bonnet when we got home!

This afternoon we were in the front garden clearing out the so-called flower bed. As it is there are no flowers in there only some weird sort of weed, that looks like little trees (note to self: take picture tomorrow!), so we ALL have been digging trying to get it all out, including the roots - the boys called them "dirty sticks"! We got half way across the bed today, more at the weekend!

We took the new car out on a ride into the hills close by, on our way to a birthday party, it was a very wet, but still a very pretty ride. Our friend had outdone herself on the food at the party, it was all oriental, but very delicious.
Not really much to report today, but I did get a cute picture of Robert at the party wearing a pair of play glasses! Meet Robert Potter!

Day 161

Well, what do you think!?! This is our new car, we lease one through Dad at Opel as he used to work there, so we get to have a new car every year. This year we have an Opel Astra Caravan, and this year we also have a "Kerri Colour" which basically means a colour that no-one other than me would choose, and I love it. I love being able to spot my car on the carpark from a distance. I have had purple cars, pink cars, bright blue cars, and all sorts of other bright colours, and someone - probably my brother - coined the phrase "a Kerri Colour", it fits!

It is a bank holiday here tomorrow, so there was LOTS of traffic on the road, so my journey home from Mum and Dads with the boys which normally takes an hour, took me 1h 45mins, I am now officially exhausted and going to scrap to relax!

Day 160

Back to the real world today, and guess what, we overslept, don't recall that happening in a LONG time! Robert and Richard were up at the crack of dawn as usual, but as they were creeping through our room back from the toilet, I looked up, and Richard crawled into bed with me and Robert continued back into his room. Robert carried on playing, and Richard and I went back to sleep! And I didn't wake up again until 8.40am! then it was a rush to get them to Kindergarden.
but we obviously needed the extra sleep!
Shopping then for me, and then it was time to go and get them again.
This afternoon we were able to get out in the garden, and I got the car cleaned out on the inside, because tomorrow I go to pick up our new car! Watch this space for a picture!;o)

Day 158 and 159

Double post today, but the days belong together! Florian got his birthday present from me today, I think I might have already mentioned it a couple of times, but here it is again. I got him a trip to Essen including an overnight stay and tickets to a German Musical "Ich will Spass" - it was GREAT! Mum and Dad looked after the boys for us, and we had a super weekend together.
Sunday we dropped the boys off with Mum and Dad and drove to Essen (2.5 hours), we checked into the hotel (Holiday Inn) and then off we went to pick up the musical tickets. We couldn't believe our luck, we had seats in the 6th row and right in the middle!
We then looked for somewhere for lunch and found a great italian cafe that did delicious very thin pizzas. The musical started at 2.30pm, so after lunch it was back to the theatre for some great entertainment!
After the theatre we went back to the hotel to get an umbrella, terrible rain! Then guess what, time for more food! Because of the rain we didn't want to walk far, but here nothing was far from anything. The hotel was a two minute walk from the theatre, and the restaurant we chose was right underneath the cinema, which was our evening entertainment. We certainly made up for not too much culture in the last months!
We went to see "Illuminati - angels and demons" based on the book by Dan Brown and starring Tom Hanks. Thoroughly enjoyed it! After that we were exhausted and went back to the hotel.

today we had breakfast at the hotel - a delicous breakfast buffet, anything you could have possibly wanted was there!
And as Germany's biggest shopping mall was right opposite the hotel, we of course had to spend the day shopping. We bought the boys a tiny weeny soft toy from IKEA, and then we both found bargain jackets for the rainy cold June we are having. And I got a nice blouse and Florian another sweatshirt jacket.
After the shopping more food, first in the food court there a thai meal (chicken in a coconut-peanut sauce) for me and Italian for Florian.
And after more shops we couldn't resist the Italian ice parlour for an ice-cream to end our great weekend.
Then it was back to pick the boys up at Mum and Dads. They had had a great time too, Saturday they spent at the Airport watching planes and riding the monorail! And today they had been to a great playground at a garden center. Now they are sound asleep, which I will be too, in a minute!

Day 157

Its raining its pouring the old man is snoring... that's what the boys have been singing today! Yep, the garden is loving all the water finally coming down from above. The boys and us not that much. Being indoors all day wasn't what the boys really wanted to do! But nothing we could do about it.
In the morning we did all go out shopping and such, and we gave the boys a little bit of a treat!
We took them to McDonalds for lunch. And they really enjoyed their Happy Meal, ate every bit of it!
We got a DVD out whilst we were out, I wanted "Twilight" but so had everyone else, and it wasn't there, so we got "Australia" starring the "sexiest man alive" Hugh Jackmann, I enjoyed it.

So this is it, I'm 40! And it really feels the same as yesterday, so all is good here!
I have had some lovely cards, emails, comments and presents - the boys sung to me this morning, without me helping them out so cute. And I got us some strawberries and cream for this afternoon. But other than that it was a very normal day, party was on Sunday, so no party today. But we did have this great candle thing, that we got for a present, the boys loved it, I have to post three pics so you get the full effect of it.



Although you can't see that it played "Happy Birthday" at the same time. So funny, even more so, that we could not get it to stop playing!

Day 155

Guess what?! Robert did not come down with a fever and was able to go to Kindergarden, and me to work! I had a lot to do there today, a big translation came in last week, so it kept me busy and out of mischief.
It also means I don't have a lot of news for today, but if you like, I will bend your ear about the "Deutsche Bahn" (German railways).
Well for his birthday I got Florian and I a weekend break to a musical, and we decided to travel there by train using the Bahn's point system and getting me a free ticket to travel with Florian. It says to allow them 10 days to send the free ticket. Well, when again today there was nothing in the post, I got Florian to call them, and guess what, no record of us ordering the free ticket! And no, we cannot get one before we go away not enough days left! grrrrrrrrrrr! We will now be driving as going on the train is 3 times the price of driving!

So after that I had another piece of leftover cake - Donauwelle, and before I finished it, I took a picture of it, it was delicious and is my favourite cake!

Day 154

I'll start by saying the antibiotics for Robert are working and he has been back to his normal self today - you know the one that is noisy, boisterous, teasing Richard, etc... So it looks like I'll be back at work tomorrow.
Having said that, Robert himself says he is still very poorly and spent 10 minutes (if not more) screaming about it, so if he has a fever tomorrow, I swear, I will be asking the doctor if he can conjure up a fever when he wants...

Nothing much to tell you about today, it was more washing and housework in the morning and playing in the garden this afternoon, although this afternoon although the weather looked beautiful, it was COLD, we all went back in and got our jackets to play outside!

I have this picture of the boys sunflowers for you today, the leaves are all a bit eaten (not sure by what) but they are growing and the boys love that fact!

Day 153

Uff, finally all caught up! Remind me not to do that in future - be lazy I mean! I probably wouldn't have come online on the day of the party to post, but I could have yesterday! Oh well, if you want to know about the party, you need to read the next to posts, as I have kept it in chronological order!
So today I thought Robert was all better - forgot to mention that yesterday he was running a fever again! Anyways this morning no fever, so kindergarden it was, when we got there, he went all tearful and complained that his head hurt so, so bad. So I took him back home with me, and waited for an appointment at the doctor. Funnily enough he seemingly recovered once we were home, and wanted to "play with me"! I carried on with the tidying up and such, and let him play on his own, sure that he had me on a piece of string. Especially as he seemed to have so much excess energy all of a sudden.
BUT the doctor took one look at his throat and prescribed antibiotics! He has another dose of tonsilitis! Poor thing.

He seemed OK in himself though, much better than at the weekend, but he has to play quietly as opposed to running and jumping.

Day 152

Woohoo no headache for me! then again, I wasn't really expecting one after drinking only "Mädchenbier" all evening - Beer with Lemon! Florian said everything was still spinning when he woke up, and he doesn't remember some of the photos we have... oops!
Florians sisters were still here, so we had some great helpers with the tidying up, although it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be!

We took it nice and easy, had a barbecue for lunch with some left over salad, then in the afternoon we had some of the leftover cake, and for tea, more leftover salads!!

We also let the rabbit join in the fun and here is Richard looking all pleased with himself, cause Treacle is sat on his lap!

Day 151

Party time!! And what a party it was. Having nervously got everything ready in the morning, and still worrying about "did I have enough food and drink" once the guests started arriving at just after 3pm, I started relaxing and enjoying! thanks Mum and Moni for all your help with the food and such, that helped not only get everyone full up with food, but calmed my nerves!

We all had a GREAT time and guess what, I had so much food over...and drink! Much rather it that way round!

I didn't take a single picture on the day, BUT I did give Dad his "orders" and he took nearly as many as I would have! So many to choose from, but I am not sure, who really wants a starring role on my blog, so I have kept the pics in the family! And a view of the guests from a distance!

Anyone wondering about Robert? Well he still had a fever, but lasted out very well, thanks to some Ibuprofen, poor thing, he so wanted to join in the party, but just couldn't! But here he looks alright!And here I am in my pretty new scarf!The last guests left at about 11.30pm, so not too late. But more importantly not too early! It was a great way to start life in our forties!!
