Day 244

Busy day today. First on my list of to-dos - Take the boys and their guitars to school. That was an easy one. We followed the bus into the village, but as that has to visit another school on the way there, we were first to school, the boys were quite excited about that.

Richard and I looked for his missing sweatshirt once there, but he must have left it on the bus, cause we couldn't find it at school. But I was shocked to see just how many jackets have been left behind! Two whole chests full of jumpers, coats, hats and scarves!

From school I drove to work - nothing to report from there (and that is always good news). I left work at midday and then it was back to pick the boys up from school. I was a bit early so I went and got the shopping first. When I was loading it in to the car, I remembered that I had to fit 3 guitars in the boot too....mmh.... Well when I got the boys I did manage to get 2 guitars in the boot, one had to travel as a passenger! Maybe next week, I won't do too much shopping!

Whilst I was making lunch Richard got his guitar out and did some practicing and Robert started on his homework. At 3pm Richard and I went to Kindergarden, Richard wanted to see his old teachers again and I had to pick up one little boy, who we were going to take to football training today.

When Robert had finished his homework we went to the playground with a LOT of other kids and mums. At 5 we had to leave to go to Richard's football game!

When we got there we realised that we were playing against a friends team, and her son was in goal too! Too funny! When we have a rematch we will plan it better and all go out to eat after the match. Richard did quite well in goal, and saved a lot of goals, unfortunately they still managed to score a lot of goals. But it didn't bother Richard too much, cause he wants to be in goal again on Monday at their next game! Here he is in action.

Florian made it to the game too, it made it easier too, that the match was at the village at his exit of the motorway! The boys were really pleased to see him there.
I think he is worn out though, cause he has been snoring for the last hour! Maybe I should wake him now to go to bed! CU tomorrow!

Day 243

Work this morning, I didn't have the work I was expecting, but I did have something to do, so I suppose I can't complain!
I left at 12, and when I got home I had a delicious salad, with croutons, bacon and fried egg on top. So yummy!
I was on my own in the afternoon, so I did some more housework until it was time to pick the boys up from the busstop. Robert hadn't managed to finish his homework at school - there was just too much of it. We only really had 45 minutes til we had to go out to his football game, but he managed to get it finished in time. But I have realised, that we are going to have to cancel his school sports group, because if he did that he wouldn't get home until 6pm and if he then still had homework to do....So tomorrow when I am at school, I will take his name off of the list. Shame, but there just isn't the time.

Anyways this evening he had his first football game with the new team. They drew 2:2, they nearly won, but I suppose it doesn't really count that they let the last goal in in the last minute!
Here is Robert on the pitch

And here is the team meeting at half time

And this is what Richard was doing instead of watching the game! ;o)

Day 242

Housework this morning, so not much to report there, at lunchtime the man turned up to exchange the glass in our windows. I was expecting him to exchange just one of the glass panes (there are three in each window) but no he had it a lot easier than that, He unclicked the plastic from the inside and then took the whole pane out and replaced the lot. It took him just over an hour for 8 windows. And I have checked them all and we no longer have scratches on our new windows.
I didn't want a boring picture of just a window, so I just took one with Lucky in it too! And the white spot in the middle of the window - the moon that will be full tomorrow. Aren't I lucky that the boys are at school all day tomorrow!
Photobucket
This afternoon before art school, we went and picked up Richard's guitar. He now has the correct size and in blue too! Then it was time for art school. Richard told me he painted a picture of the woods on fire. No idea where that came from, but that is what he did, Robert did the beach! But I didn't see the pictures, so I have no idea!

I have been watching the paralympics opening ceremony, but I think I will be giving up at "P" again (same as with the normal olympics) just too many atheletes for me!
CU tomorrow!

Again no pictures - I just can't get blogger to upload, tomorrow I will blog earlier and think of something, can't have a blog with no pictures!

Day 241

Robert didn't complain about his chin hurting today, so I think it is on the mend. At the busstop this morning all the other kids (mine weren't amongst them this time) were playing chase or racing, well another child fell over today! She banged the back of her head on the concrete, no blood this time, and we put her on the bus and told her to tell the teacher instantly if she started feeling sick. But she was fine! (I saw her get off the bus when I picked the boys up) I think tomorrow, I will stop them running about!

I went for my sport this morning, we did lots for the arms today, so come tomorrow night typing might be difficult! But it was fun.
Then I went shopping, I got broccoli for lunch, and the boys were so excited about it. We had pasta, broccoli, carrots and feta cheese sauce - yummy!

Robert had a lot of homework today, but once he had finished they both went out and rode around on their bikes, I think I was sorting washing then!
At 5pm it was time for football training, I only dropped them off today, but I did have a little chat before I left.

There was a beautiful sunset tonight and I got a couple of pictures, it doesn't quite capture the atmosphere, but it was definitely that shade of pink!

Day 240

Well as you know nothing ever goes according to plan around here, and it all went off course at about 7.24 this morning, when Robert fell over whilst playing chase at the busstop! He landed smack on his chin, and added to the scar he already has there!
So instead of him getting on the bus, we headed back to see Katrin who saw to the wound. She is not a nurse, but knows a lot about it, and has all the right stuff there. Here is her handy work and poor Robert's chin!

After he was all sorted, I took him to school by car, and even got him there on time. I was just a bit later starting work from home for work! They asked me on Friday if I could do a translation for them on Monday but they neglected to tell me that it was 3000+ words! Well 3000 words is a good two full days of work, not just one Monday morning, so I let them know that I wouldn't be finishing it, but would do as much as possible. I got 40% done, we'll see if the rest is still there for me to do on Thursday!

At 11am friends came round to help get the drinks and tables back to the drinks shop and tomorrow I get the bill for all that was drunk at the party. Got to love living in a village, where everything is so uncomplicated (is that really a word?!)

At 1pm Richard and I headed to school to pick Robert up and from there we headed to Nanna and Pop's. The boys were quite excited about the picnic in the car. And also about doing homework at Nanna and Pops. Robert had too much homework, so tomorrow I will have to write him a note explaining why he didn't finish his, but we really didn't want to miss the party.

Zoe turned 10 today, time really does fly, doesn't it!

We were late leaving as we were all having such a good time, so the boys didn't get to bed until gone 9.30pm, oops, they will be tired tomorrow.
So am I now so I am off to bed

Day 239

We had a lay in this morning - well, Florian and I did, not sure what time Robert and Richard got up. When we did come down they were watching Alvin and the Chipmunks - Shipwrecked. Shame they didn't wait for us, I haven't seen that one yet!
Robert was up in the night at 4 with earache again, but when I got up this morning it was all gone again. This evening at bedtime it was back again - very strange earache!

We went to the bakers for brunch. We met with Florian's parents there, who were staying here babysitting our nieces. They also bought along 3 of our nephews and one more niece. We were quite a crowd at the bakers. And all went well, too. Here is a picture of us all playing Chinese whispers.

When we got back home and after Robert had finished some of his homework, we all sat down and watched "Pirates" (by the makers of Wallace and Grommit), well I say we all watched, but I did some translating for work.

And now Florian and I are watching Disney's Beauty and the Beast! I'm also recording it for the boys!

Day 237 and Day 238

Notting Hill was on TV last night, and I watched that instead of blogging, it had been a long while since we last saw it, so it was really good again. But now to catch up again!

Day 237 - Friday
Was up at 3.15am as there was a really noisy storm. I got up to close both our window and that of the boys. When I went into the boys room, Robert was awake, he was a bit bothered by the thunder, but not so much so, that he needed to come into bed with me. He did mention that he had a bit of earache, I told him to lay on his ear and went back to bed. Well in the morning when he got up, his earache was "really really bad" and he also had a sore throat and a headache, so instead of work/school it was the doctors for him. But first we took Richard to school, because he had a guitar lesson today.
Robert does have a slight infection in his ear and he has nose drops to try and help clear that up. At 12 Robert and I set off to do some shopping, collect his prescription and pick up Richard and his guitar from school. We also picked up another little boy, he was staying with us for lunch and the early afternoon as his mother had to go to a funeral.
At 3.30 pm I had to go and help load up the drinks and tables for our big school BBQ. There were 3 of us to do it, and it went really quickly. One of the girls stayed and helped me tidy the barn up a little bit more, that didn't take too long either as most of what was in the barn, were benches or seats of some sort, and they were going to be used at the BBQ.

Richard went with a friend to his football game at 5pm. He got to play in goal and he apparently was really good. They are quite disappointed that he won't be there on Monday, but Monday we are going to Zoe's birthday party.
Whilst Richard was gone Robert started on his homework. Half way through he turned on the tears and said he couldn't do anymore cause his ear was hurting too much - I didn't fall for that and he did finish his German homework. We couldn't finish his maths homework because he didn't have the right book at home - oops!

And guess what with all that going on, I forgot to take a picture!

Day 238 - Saturday
We spent the morning tidying up the utility room, cleaning the bathroom and a taking things out to the barn for the BBQ. At 2 c'clock, some of the guests from the village came early to help us build up all the tables, it all went really smoothly.
And the party was a great success, I hope I showed the girl who has been sending annoying emails all week, how to hold a BBQ without stress! And if she hadn't tried to give me two lectures it would have been a perfect afternoon. No seriously I had a good time! Here are a couple of pictures from the afternoon.

This first one is the kids playing table football with their old teacher (they have a new one this term), they all cheered when he got there, so he must be really missed!

And doesn't our garden make a great beer garden!

Florian did the BBQ'ing for us, thank you!
And here is the salad buffet (one of the causes of the annoying emails), we doubled up on the tomato and mozzarella, but you can never have too many tomatoes!!)

Day 236

Remember the boring posts on a Monday when I was at work and the boys at school all day, well those posts have moved to Thursdays!
Work for me, school for the boys. Robert got in to the Tennis workshop on Thursday afternoons, but he wasn't that talkative when he got home from school, so I really have no idea how it was, other than the  word "good" I couldn't get anything out of Robert.
Richard enjoyed his day and was excited to tell me all about it. So I know a bit more from him. One of the kids from a different class lost control of the scooter he was on and crashed into Richard he is now covered in grazes, poor thing. But he did make a friend at some point, a boy called Tom from a different class. Too cute!

Back home I asked if they would like to practice some guitar, they did about 10minutes work, and for that we had to build it all up, including music stands. And I also got a couple of close ups of the boys!

Day 235

Well, no one needs to be jealous today, we didn't go to the pool today! This morning I went to the library. I was on my own today, to sort out the lists of classes (the new first years) and the library time table. It was actually a very productive morning. So much so, that I don't have to go in again next week, and the library opens in September for the kids!

In the afternoon after the kids played for over an hour in their bedroom I think they have been missing just playing! Well anyhow after that we went in the garden and we all did some weeding. We now have a pathway to the chickens that is weed free. The boys did a great job. Afterwards Richard asked me if they had earnt themselves some pennies. How could I resist that? So they got 50cts each, which they promptly spent in the bubblegum machine down the road - only it has toys and not bubblegum?

After that it was off to art school, Richard didn't really want to go, but I am 100% sure that he enjoyed it when he got there. Today they made sculptures out of peas and toothpicks. I got a picture of Richard's.

It looked like great fun, I sort of wish I could have joined in! Maybe I'll get some for the bbq party on Saturday...we'll see!

Day 234

Today was another really hot day, not quite as sunny as yesterday but still as hot. And I was really brave, I went to sport, but I did have the very first appointment, so it hadn't quite peaked the temperature. But it was nice afterwards to get under the nice cool shower!
From there I went shopping for the BBQ on Saturday. In a moment of insanity you see I offered to host Robert's class BBQ. Which wouldn't be so much of a problem if I didn't have some "so-called help" from another Mum - long story, but she is the reason I will be stepping down from the PTA as soon as we have a parents evening. Anyhow I needed to get some paper plates and forks, so I went to a cheap shop I know and had a wander. I haven't been there for ages, so it made a change.

At lunch time, I had to pick Richard up from the bus stop. Both Richard and Robert were excited to see me there - too cute! But it was Robert that was most excited, as him and his friend had decided to spend the afternoon together. I said no, because we were going to the swimming pool, to which they both replied "but xyz can come with us" - erm no, not really. But when they look up at you with that pleading look, I gave in a bit and told the lad to get his Mum to call me.
After checking with her, that he really can swim, and that it is OK that he will be in the non-swimmers pool without supervision, I agreed to take him.
And although he is known for talking back or such, he was as much of an angel as boys can be. And we all had a great time at the pool. Can you spot them on this picture having an ice-cream?!

At 4.30pm we had to leave the pool (it was 4.50 by the time we got out) to go to football training. Whilst the boys were training, a friend and I took a walk through the woods. You would have thought the air in the woods would be cooler, but nope. Hot, sticky and not a breeze in sight. But we had a good chat, even if we were melting away!

I took another couple of photos today too, when I got home from shopping. There was a cheeky snail on our fountain out the front. I can't decide which picture I like best, so I'll let you choose.

I felt a bit sorry for him, so other than take his photo I did nothing. So somewhere out there is a cooled down snail, slithering around!

Day 233

Today was so hot again, much too hot to do much. BUT the ironing had been collecting for the last three weeks, so I started early and got it finished before it got too hot! At 12.30 someone came around to fix my oven. It didn't take him a minute to work out what was broken - it was the cooling fan. When I asked how much it would be, he said it was about 80Euros not cheap, but cheaper than a new oven. So off he went to his van to find the part. Well when the poor guy came to write the invoice for me, he found out that the part actually cost 214 Euros - oops. He was so shocked, that he marked the part down by 106 Euros for me. Now that is service! I wonder if it had something to do with the nice cold glass of water I gave him, when he got here?!
Here is a picture I got on my phone, whilst he was out getting the part

After lunch the boys and I packed our stuff up and headed to the swimming pool again. There wasn't much else we could do in this heat. It was so hot that even I didn't mind going in the water today! We stayed until just after 5pm, Robert would have loved to stay a lot longer, but he did still have homework to do. But we will be going back tomorrow, if the weather is still the same. Not for quite as long, as it is football training, but it will still be fun.

Off to bed now

Day 232

Today was sooooooo hot, we did the only thing you can do in this heat! We packed a picnic and went off to the outdoor swimming pool! The kids were really excited about it!

Once there and creamed up it was off into the water with the kids and Florian and I got our noses stuck in our books!
It was a lovely relaxing day!
We left the pool at 3.30 so that we were home in time to bbq. Florian's sister was going to come round, but they just couldn't face the drive to us, in this heat and no air-conditioning, and I can totally understand that.
So it was just us and the boys.

And here a couple of pictures of our day,
yep it was a belly flop!

they had been in the water so long they needed to warm up!

waiting for the food to be ready!
not many were taken, like I said, Florian and I got stuck in our books! In fact we spent all evening reading, didn't even turn the TV on! Must be good books! Florian finished his, and I have about 30 pages to go, but my eyes keep trying to close, so I will have to wait until tomorrow!
CU then!

Day 231

This morning we all went shopping, but first we went to deliver the wedding photos to the couple whose pictures I took back in the middle of July! They have been away on holiday since then, but they were still really excited to get the pictures!
From there we went to the shopping centre and instead of making the kids suffer through the food shopping first, we did the toy shop first. The main reason being the temperature, but the kids weren't complaining.
Richard spent some of the money he got from starting school. He bought a playmobil cowboy set.

And Robert bought the Kirby Wii Game that Tommie had with him when he stayed (Robert was spending his birthday money).

In the afternoon Robert went to a birthday party, Richard was invited too, but he didn't want to go, his words were "But he's not my friend", and its true really, he is definitely more Robert's friend, so Richard stayed home with us and played with his cowboys. He also at some point found a big box to play with

it was fun until this happened

and then I had to kiss it better!

And yes that is me relaxing on a comfy chair, reading. It was lovely!

Day 229 and Day 230

Well, you can now call me "Little Miss Scatterbrain" as you will see after I catch up with the past two days!

Day 229
Yesterday was my first day back at work after 6 weeks school holiday! And I finally now get to sit back with my English friend, in an office where only the two of us sit, so I think I will be MUCH happier now! But of course I didn't forget, that I am not allowed to only work at work, so I did some mingling, I started slowly just a chat in an open doorway, but I will work up to coffee with everyone!

Back home Richard was already back from school and he was slightly disappointed, because they didn't do maths! Bless him, how long will this keep up..? Robert had his first ever 6 lesson day, which meant he didn't get home until 1.30pm, so it was a long day for him. I was just helping him sort out his homework, when the phone rang,  it was the sports centre, I had forgotten that I had an appointment at 2pm. Oops! All was OK, if I could come straight away, so I jumped in the car and drove straight there. This picture is from a few weeks ago, Richard took it, it is me all wired up ready to get started on my workout.

When I got home I got some more housework done and then it was time to take Robert to his school sports. Richard and I left him there and came back home, where we sat in the jungle out the front and had an ice-cream. Richard was so content to just eat his ice-cream and then sort the stones there it was really relaxing and we stayed there until it was time to pick Robert up again.

Day 230
So today I didn't have to wait until 2pm to find out that my brain is fried, at 8.30am Florian called me at work, I had forgotten an appointment at the hairdressers! I think that qualifies me as a Scatterbrain! I phoned my hairdresser and friend straight up and apologised and made a new appointment, she squeezed me in in the afternoon. She didn't have time to blow dry my hair as well, but that was fine by me, cause in this heat it is just right to walk around with wet hair! I am now all young again!

The boys had their first guitar lesson today and I think they really enjoyed it. Tomorrow we will find out how much they learnt when we let them practice. Richard's new guitar is too small the teacher said, so we phoned the music shop and they have ordered a bigger one but in the same colour for us, until then we can keep the small guitar!

There was a bit of an upset at football training tonight, the trainer thought it would be a good idea to let the kids play with water bombs. The first one that hit Richard didn't burst and it quite hurt him, to stop him screaming, he was given a bottle of water to get his own back on the trainer that had got him, unfortunately the trainer chased him with the cool box in which the bombs came and then emptied it out over Richard, I really thought he was never going to stop screaming about it. I think the week is finally catching up on him. All these new things is quite much for my little boy!

Before I go here a picture of my new hairdo!

Day 228

Richard's first "real" day at school, and he was so excited! He didn't really want me to go to the bus stop with him, but I went anyways and of course with the camera! Here a couple of pictures from the bus stop!

Once they were both at school, I intended to go to school to drop off their art things, but by the time I had everything together, I wouldn't have made it in time before the first lesson. So Florian volunteered to take the stuff for me. Just as he was about to leave he got tummy cramps (we think from the antibiotics) so I postponed my sport and we went together just in case his tummy got worse.

We got rid of the art boxes at school, and got to meet Robert's new teacher, then I organised some things for the library next week. I think Florian was surprised just how many teachers knew me!

Back home I got quite a bit of housework done, before it was time to pick Richard up at the bus stop! Florian did that today, whilst I got lunch ready! Florian also took the camera and got this shot of Richard getting off the bus!

Richard had a lot to tell us about his day, and he had a great time! The first thing he told us about was that they had been for a walk around the school and were shown where the toilets were and which ones they were allowed to use - very important rules there! He also had some homework, which he was excited about! I got a picture of both boys doing their homework. I wonder how long this will actually work! We'll see!

Robert got into trouble at school and ended up with extra work to do! He was not a happy chappy! Neither was I as we had a busy afternoon ahead of us, and the extra work meant we left a lot later than planned. As it happened though it was perfect timing, we had no waiting around.

First stop was the music shop, where we bought the boys a guitar each, ready for their lessons which start on Friday! Back home we got a picture of them trying them out! Richard was happy he was just a bit overwhelmed by it all, as he also got some Scoubidou threads and he just did not know where to start and smiling for the camera was not on his agenda!

After the music shop we went to an office supply shop and had their books for school bound. There are so many rules about binding the books, that I took the easy way out this year! And it was so much easier!!

After we had finished there it wasn't quite time for art school, so we had a ride through the car wash with Florian's car.
Whilst the boys were at art school, Florian and I went for a coffee nearby, Florian had a coffee and I had an "Iced chocolate", very nice! I could have done with a spoon instead of a straw but it was good!

As you can see quite a busy day!

Day 223 - Day 227 (Einschulung)

And the catching up continues!

Day 223 (Friday)
Florian had a check up for his veins in the morning, so the rest of us "hang out" at home. I had painted my toenails early in the morning and when Lisa saw them she said how much she liked them, so from then on we went around with matching toenails! Here I am painting them for her!

Around lunchtime when Florian had finally finished at the doctors we went to a park in the woods called "Grünes Meer". I hadn't been there before but had heard great things about it, and we weren't disappointed. It was great fun. We started our visit there with a picnic

Then we went on to a play area, where there was a different sort of "bouncy castle", the bounce came from hay. Here are a couple of the kids jumping in! They loved it!

There were wooden skittles, that was fun too!

Then we walked through the woods, it was uphill all the way to start with, and as Holland doesn't really have too many great heights, we needed the rest at the top! Lisa got a shot of us all resting!

A bit on from there we found some hammocks in the woods, which we all tried out. I threatened anyone who might want to make my hammock swing, and I could have stayed there and watched the leaves for a long while!

There was so much to see and do there. One other thing the kids enjoyed was the wooden xylophone

Then there was a very low climing trail, which Florian even tried out!

The highlight I think was the tower, which went up above the treeline. Hans and I stayed firmly on the ground and chatted to one of the workers from the park! Too high for us!

From there we started to head back to the car, taking in another couple of play areas on the way. Florian wanted to try this one out, I jokingly shouted "Be careful we don't need another hospital visit today" (his doctors appointment this morning was at hospital). Well nothing happened whilst he was balancing here.

BUT.... shortly after this picture, he made the acquaintance of a tree root. Which bore its way in between his toes. Hans cleaned and patched it up as best he could, but we did visit a hospital. And there they had to really clean it out and we found out the root had gone in 2cm and it had to be stitched! Not a good ending to the day which had been great!

We were really late home, so we had tea down on the "Festplatz" - sausage and chips! There were no tables outside (I have since found out that we could have sat in the tent to eat - oops next time, I should ask!! The kids found a place to eat though! And I think they were enjoying it!

Day 224 (Saturday)
This morning I got a picture of Florian's bandaged foot. On Monday he has to go to a doctor and have it checked.

After a late breakfast we went to Florian's sister for a BBQ. Lisa found a dragonfly on a chair and it just walked on to her finger and stayed a while. Too cool!

Day 225 (Sunday)
The boys were really excited today, it was the Heidelbeer parade and they were both joining in with the football team! I took them to where they were getting ready and got a couple of pictures of their Heidelbeer Search Engine as they called it!

And here are some pictures from the parade and this cute one of Florian, Tommie and Lisa!

And here is what happened with my pictures of the King and Queen and Prince and Princess! I was so proud!

After the parade the kids played in the bouncy castle area, whilst we sampled the Heidelbeer cake in the beer tent.

Dinphy and family left - I think at about six and arrived home safe and sound! It was lovely having you here to stay - CU again soon!

Day 226 (Monday)
Back to school today for Robert, I don't think he was that happy about it all! But then again it is difficult going back after 6 weeks at home and with all we had been doing, I would think it even more difficult. Whilst Robert was at school, we went shopping. We got a new lock for the back door. Hans and Florian had prepared it well and once we had the part it was mended in no time.
I got a few bits for Richard's Schultüte and we got new blinds for the boys windows.

In the afternoon Florian went to the doctors and she wasn't that happy with the wound, it looked a bit infected, so Florian has to make sure he puts his foot up more and he is signed off work for this week. My pictures for the day are of "back to school work". Robert got new school books, and if there is any damage to them it must be documented, so that you don't end up paying for something that was already broken when you got it at the end of the school term. So I took pictures to prove my point! This is the worst damage to the books!

Day 227 (Tuesday)
Richards big day and he was soooo excited. He would have been quite happy to get on the bus at 7.30am with Robert. But he had to wait until we left at 9am, that wasn't easy! Here he is right before we set out!

He was really bored at parts because instead of starting to learn right away he had to "endure" a church service with lots of standing and singing and then various presentations from the classes 2 - 4! Poor boy!

But he was off as soon as they called his name to join his teacher!

After his very first lesson I took all the classes photos and here is his class photo!

Then we got some of "our" school boy and family!

Back home he got to unpack his Schultüte and he was thrilled with all his presents and sweeties!

He got some pencils, crayons, a watch and a DVD from us, some money, a sports bag, some Lego (a calendar) and a Star Wars sticker book from Nanna and Pop, from Dinphy and family a smart game, Uncle Lee and family sent a book for beginners, Tante Ulla a book and some money, Florian's sister got him a wipeable timetable and Katrin and Sabine made him his art supply box and a cake each. This is the one Katrin made him. That is all gone now, must have been good!

And now I am all caught up again. Now I just need to get all caught up on the jobs around the house, and I can relax again! Might take a while, when I see my todo list for tomorrow. But more on that tomorrow!
CU then!
